First Sheep Hides for Our Lamb Customers
Hello Lovely Lamb Customers,
Our Sheep Hides are ready! We learned a lot of new things last year, but they were all abstract from finances and land acquisition to big leaps in trust and vision. We learned very few land management and animal husbandry skills as it was an all out execution of the knowledge we have acquired over the past decade. Expanding our hard skills however, is always the most satisfying. Saving our first bunch of sheep hides at the close of the season was tremendously fulfilling. Jeremiah has had to restrain me from going out and buying a bunch of fancy ewes!
These hides would not have happened without Kimberly and Duane of @livingskytannery. They are a family giving it their all just like us, and have built an organic mimosa bark tannery just over the Idaho border from the ranch. In their words, “we were not born into this business, it was created out of necessity.” Rebuilding domestic craftsmanship with our families at our sides is a cure for so many maladies.
Our Sheep Hides will be offered first to our Lamb Share customers, including our Whole Harvest Share families. Those of you who asked for one after we shared the fleshing and salting video in November have one tentatively reserved. Like our meats, we only sell what we raise - but fear not there should still be a handful available to all. Details and individual photographs to come soon. The hides will be on a sliding scale of $280 - $340 each depending on thickness, softness, and size. They will last for many many years, and are a tactile way to have a part of the ranch in your home, under your toes and bums.
P.S. Click on the website link in our bio to reserve a February Pork Share and to email me if you would like to reserve one of these beauties! Thank you sheep!
Here are the details:
- We have both brushed (look fuzzy fluffy) and unbrushed hides (natural wool crinkle).
- I will share more details on the hides themselves (with photos, sizes and descriptions) soon. A few quick pics below.
- They range in price from $280-340 depending on thickness, softness and size. They can last for decades if cared for.
- We will either deliver them with your next meat order or mail them to you should your next order be far out.
Please tell me one of the following:
A) Yes please we would love to have one this year!
B) We definitely want one but please put us on the waitlist for next year :)
C) No thank you, please offer to someone else.
Please call or email should you have any questions. I will send out a follow up email to those who are interested and we will go from there. We can’t wait to raise another group of lambs and do this again, and I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels to have a piece of the land turned into fiber in our home - I am typing this while sitting on the one we kept for ourselves right now that our daughter was napping on this morning.
Thank you for reading and ALSO please tell us how your lamb meat is. We are deciding which breeds to raise over the coming years and your feedback is REALLY important to us having fantastic lamb.
Warmly,
Aimee & Jeremiah
